New PSP Go on the way

In case you haven’t already heard, images of the new PSP Go have been released by Sony, shortly before the big E3 event in the coming days.

Personally, I think it looks fantastic.

The screen is slightly smaller, but the new design certainly makes up for this in my opinion.

One big thing that seems to be surprising previous PSP owners is that Sony have scrapped the UMD drive and placed a 16GB flash drive in it instead. The Memory Stick Pro slot has also been replaced by a Memory Stick Micro.

There will be plenty more news when the E3 event begins, so stay tuned!

BBC [finally] updates iPlayer download software!

At last, the BBC have finally updated the iPlayer download software. I just couldn’t stand the Java (? – I think it was Java – correct me if I’m wrong), but the BBC have totally rewritten and redesigned the software with Adobe Air.

Big improvement. It’s much easier to use, it’s quicker, plus it works much better overall.

On top of that, the BBC has added download support for Google Chrome you can download programmes from Chrome.

So if you use iPlayer a lot, this is a very handy update. Head over to bbc.co.uk/iplayer to see what the fuss is about.

Ubuntu 9.10 confirmed as next version due for October

The founder of Ubuntu linux – Mark Shuttleworth – has confirmed that the next release of Ubuntu will be version 9.10. He announced the news on this page, and has said that the release is due in October of this year.

He has named the release the Karmic Koala.

The new release is expected to have plenty of new features as he explains on his detailed announcement page.

If you’ve got a few minutes to spare, have a read through his annoucement page and see what you think. It is quite hefty and detailed so you’ll need a little while to read it all, but it does promising and well worth it.

The announcement can be found here.

Google Earth 5 – Now with ocean view and time travel!

Google has recently launched the brand new version 5 of the popular Google Earth.

New features include a brand new oceanic view, which means you can dive into the oceans as wel as use the land view. On top of that, you can go “back in time” and see the historical changes of places over time.

A lot of new content has been added, including useful resources from companies like National Geograhpic and the BBC.

You can even record yourself touring around the world of Google Earth.

Sadly, I can’t install it at the moment becuase the Google Updater/installer refuses to cooperate and running the actual Google Earth installer just brings up an error, so that’s not a great kick off for me. I’ll try and get it running in XP or on another PC sometime so I can write a quick review.

While you’re waiting, head over to http://earth.google.com to grab a copy for yourself.

Windows 7… what do you think?

Well it’s been on the news recently that Windows 7 is beginning to get it’s first visual demos and it’s being shown around a little. And from what I’ve seen, it looks like it’s going to be really nice. The visual design of it looks much more homely, and it looks like Microsoft wants to work even further at making the computer be more of a household object.

If you haven’t heard much about the new Windows 7, this post on Neowin.net will help you catch up a little. I’ve also got a few screenshots here that give a vague idea of what it will look like.

Obviously, the design could change at any time so this is only a vague idea. But by the looks of it, it might be quite nice – although I don’t like the start bar at all at the moment, but its probably only a demo.

Oh and a quick research says that it will be released anytime between the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010 – fat chance in my opinion but we’ll see. Remember how delayed Vista was?

Lets just hope they don’t make the same mistakes with Windows 7 that they did with Vista.
